My First Public Speaking Experience

Today I'm going to tell you about my first 4H presentation.

My first 4H presentation was about the Florida Dung Beetle, also known as the Rainbow Scarab Beetle. We got the idea on doing the Florida Dung Beetle when we were doing bug class and remembered how mom loved watching them roll the dung all around the yard. She would literally sit out there for long periods of time watching them!

Anyway, when we went to 4H county events we had to wait till everyone was done to do our presentation, giving me plenty of time to edit my speech. And let me tell you, being up in front of a bunch of people (Like 12, plus judges and mom) and not publicly speaking in 6 years can really make your legs shake. Caitlin just sat there leaning on the table tricking the audience with her cuteness. DON'T BE FOOLED! Shes evil. But that's besides the matter right now. I was just happy when it was over! Even though there were less people then I expected...

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Now I have to do it AGAIN in front of more people this May at District Events! I hope you don't have to change your speech....

But I should be fine. I SHOULD. Me and Caitlin each got a ribbon for our presentation, even though she just stood there, and she also got a ribbon on her dress and I got a blue ribbon on my Ladybug Picture. Not bad for a first time presentation-er.

Book Report: Dolphin Tale

Today I'm going to tell you about the book Dolphin Tale.

The book Dolphin Tale is by far one of the best books I have ever read, based on the true story. This book will capture your heart in its amazing sense of suspense, sadness, and humor! This book (in my opinion) is approved for everyone, especially for animal lovers.

This book is about the story of a boy named Sawyer Nelson who finds a young dolphin stranded on the beach. With the help of her friend Hazel, Dr.McCarthy,and the Clearwater Marine Rescue Station, the dolphin, now known as Winter, would become a strong, healthy dolphin. It wasn't till the end that I realized it was the junior novel...

This book will probably make you a little teary eyed at certain points. The movie probably will too, although we haven't seen it yet.

I liked this book because it wasn't all sad and boohoo like I thought it was going to be. Everyone likes a happy ending, right? Right.

I Have A Dream

Today I'm going to tell you about my dream. This is in honor of Martin Luther King .Jr day.

My dream is to one day become a Marine Biologist. I want to become one because my love for the ocean and its creatures is almost as strong as my love for my family. My goal is to find, study, and protect the worlds oceans and their many species. Fishy Friday was inspired by my dream. My knowledge for animals ( Both on and off of land) is extremely good for my age. Some people even say me and my sister know more about animals the anyone in our town. Although we do live in a small town...

Anyway, I someday plan on accomplishing my dream by getting a good scholarship and going to a good college. There I will study harder than I do now!

My main goal in all of this is to show the entire world the amazing world our oceans are and that we should protect them. Many species of animals like the blue whale are going endangered. Even the great white shark, even though you might not like them, need to be protected. We need them, and everything else. And I'm not talking about for food!

And I also have 2 backup dreams. If I can't manage to become a marine biologist, I either wanna become a video game designer (I love video games!) or a cryptozooologist. They study things like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. My friends Jacob and Luke also like cryptozoology.

Book Report: The Great Brain Reforms

Today I'm going to tell you about my latest read book, The Great Brain Reforms.

This is one of the books from the Great Brain book series by John D. Fitzgerald, the brother of the Great Brain. These are all real stories by the way, although if you read it some things might seem unreal. The Great Brain many times try's to swindle children, and the occasional adult, out of many things. For example: In this book he used a boomerang (Never before seen in their town) to swindle a boy out of his Air Rifle by saying he magnetized wood. You can't magnetize wood!! And as a result the boy got a whooping by his pa. Really? Really. This book is mainly about the Great Brain reforming on his bad habit of performing constant swindel's. Believe it or not my mom head me read the 5th book. Ha!

I liked this book because it produced a good feeling to it. And the fact that its a true story really makes it neat! I recommend this book for people who enjoy adventure and suspenseful (not in a bad way) stories.

The Pileated Woodpecker

Today I'm going to tell you about the Pileated Woodpecker.

Now, first off, I'm sorry but I couldn't upload a picture to show you all. Again, sorry.

Anyway, the Pileated Woodpecker is the SECOND largest species of woodpecker in the world, coming up close to the Imperial Woodpecker (If it's not extinct.). It is however the largest woodpecker in North America reaching sizes of 18 inches (The Imperial reaching up to 24 inches, but enough about them. Distracting me!) and reaching in at a weight of 12 pounds. It is well known for killing large amounts of trees, a quarter of a forest if possible, to get to the insects inside. They're basically living jack hammers! Both males and females have a large red crest on their head, but the ideal way to tell the difference (Unless you happen to see the female lay an egg,) is males have a red stripe going along the back side of their beak and females are slightly smaller. If you just looked at the body you wouldn't tell the difference, both are black and white striped. These woodpeckers are found almost everywhere in North America, depending on where you live you might see one. I'm in Florida and I've only seen one in person for a split second in my Magnolia Tree. It seemed to be looking for something. These birds love to eat things such as bug larvae and bugs themselves. They aren't picky eaters.These birds are both friend and enemy, frienenemy. They kill trees in order to get to their bugs and make homes, but when they move on they leave homes for other animals and if the tree falls over it is fertilizer for the ground. So the next time you see a Pileated Woodpecker in your tree, don't scare it off. We need them :D.

Today I'm going to write a poem about what I'm thankful for.

Here in my life I am thankful for many things, now I'm going to tell you in some nice rhyming rings.

I am thankful for my Mom, she can be pretty cool. Except when she brings up sirtent subjects in school.

I am thankful for my Dad, he can make some pretty good dinners. I'm suprised that even if hes exercising he hasn't gotten any thinner...

I am thankful for me sister, we sometimes study bacteria. But when she makes me REALLY mad sometimes I wanna ship her to Siberia.

I am thankful for my dogs, they keep me safe at night. Our little dog likes soda, I wonder if she'll like sprite?

I am thankful for my friends, especially Jacob and Braidan. Sometimes I wonder if Braidans his little sisters maiden.

I am thankful for my house, it keeps my head dry. Without it I'm afraid I would would die.

I am thankful for FOOD, it keeps my tummy full. Without it I think my life would be pretty dull.

I am thankful for my Grandparents, Uncles and Aunts. I sometimes give them a silent chant.

I'm thankful for my games, they keep me from getting bored. That is, when I don't spill juice on my cord.

I'm thankful for everything, it makes my life complete. When I'm here with my family, it cannot be beat.

A Christmas Carol Book Report

Today I'm going to tell you about the story I read called "A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens".

A Christmas Carol, is one of the best books I've read yet (Coming close to Moby Dick). It's about a greedy and lonely old man named Ebenezer Scrooge who won't even pay for his electric bill or heat bill! One day he is visited by the ghost of his old ''business partner" Jacob Marley on the night of Christmas Eve who warns him of three spirits that will haunt him. The first will appear at midnight, the 2nd on the next midnight, and the third when the clock strikes 1:00 the next night. So Scrooge went to bed, after claiming that Marley was just a mirage made by an undigested piece of beef, and sure enough when the clock struck midnight, there was the spirit.

The first spirit was the Ghost of Christmas Past, in the 1st chapter. He was a short man with no feet, a well-aged mans face, and his head was on fire. He fit the characteristics of a ghost quite well. His mission, along with the other ghosts, was to change Scrooge into a better person. He took Scrooge back into the past to show him Scrooge's previous Christmas's. He showed him Little Fan (His sister I think) coming to take him home for Christmas, and Old Fizze Wig throwing a party where Scrooge met his girlfriend. Then it showed Scrooge replacing his girlfriend for money. Greeeeedy! That was the last time he saw his girlfriend and the end of the 1st chapter.

The next night Scrooge was confronted by the Ghost of Christmas Present, the 2nd chapter. This ghost was very large, he looked like Paul Bunyon who "let himself go" and grew a beard! I kinda didn't understand every word they said in this chapter because there was so much British talk. This time Scrooge didn't refuse to go and willingly went with him. The spirit showed him his Nephew (Little Fans son) and all his friends and family. They were playing a game of charades and guessing a wild animal. One woman guessed Uncle Scrooge and got it right. Ebenezer didn't seem too happy...
Then the spirit took Scrooge to his employee Bob's house. They were getting ready for Christmas Dinner and everyone pitched in, including Tiny Tim. Scrooge asked the spirit what would happen to Tiny Tim but no answer. After seeing all that the spirit took Scrooge to a clock tower.He showed him the two humans of Ignorance and Want before dieng off (Apparently spirits live very short lives).

The next night Scrooge was confronted by the final spirit in chapter 3, the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come. This spirit was a dark shadow and when he showed his body it was a metallic black. Some people might even refer to him as the Grim Reaper! He showed him that Tint Tim did die and that now his father and mother are old, looking through Ebenezer's stuff. The spirit then shows him Ebenezer's own grave and the date:

By now Scrooge was pleading for mercy, but the spirit denied. He tossed Scrooge into his grave. Scrooge thought he was a gonner, but then he wound up (Literally) in his room. He was a new man getting ready to share his joy to the world. He asked a boy to go buy the biggest turkey in the store and bring it to Tiny Tim's house. Then he payed the boy. He even sang in a Choir! He then went to his Nephews house for Christmas dinner and afterwards gave Bob a raise and helped pay for Tiny Tim's medical bills, who did NOT die! And they pretty much lived happily ever after. The End.

I thought this was a very good book with a nice happy ending. The End.

We the People

Today is another short story like Sky Pumpkin except not nearly as dumb.

This school year started out great. Everyone seemed to be getting along. We were learning a lot of new things. We were having fun. Then one day in September that all changed. It seemed like no one was getting along. We were not learning all that much. The teacher was too busy with behavior problems. School was not so much fun anymore.

On Friday, Mrs.Shelton told us that we had homework for the weekend. Our assignment was to think of ways to make school fun again. She said something had to change. She wanted our ideas. On Monday we would share our ideas. She hoped we could come up with a solution.

That weekend I thought and thought. I had no idea how to make school fun again. I thought I would ask my dad if he had any good ideas. Usually, he had some pretty good ones. I looked all over for him but couldn't find him in his usual spots. Then I heard the TV.

My dad did not usually watch TV. It must be something really interesting. I walked into the TV room and sure enough there was Dad. He was sitting on the sofa. He looked like he was really concentrating on the show that was on. Instead of interrupting I chose to sit next to him and watch.

He was watching a show on the Constitution. I knew a little about it from school. I knew that it was a set of rules. It was made because there were groups of people who could not get along. Every person thought they knew what was best for the groups. No one was willing to give in. Wait a minute! A group of people who could not get along? That sounded familiar.

I watched more of the program. I concentrated just as hard as my dad did as I learned all about the Constitution of the United States.

The constitution was written over 200 years ago. Everyone had thoughts on how the nation was to be run. Some thought that each state should have its own laws. Some thought that a central government should make all the laws. There was a lot of fighting and arguing.

Finally, one man stepped in. He said that all of the ideas were good. He suggested taking ideas from all sides. He said that all ideas could be put together. That way there were no losers. Each person's ideas would be included. Everyone would be a winner. On September 17, 1787, the Constitution was finished. It is still used today. Many new rules had to be added. It has been working for hundreds of years.

That was it! I knew what my idea was to make school fun again. I jumped off the sofa. I ran out of the room. Before I left, I turned around and said, "Thanks Dad!" He just waved his arm and said ''Glad I could help, Jack."

And then...

A giant purple monkey fell out of the sky and played tennis on the school! Haha no, I'm just kidding. Instead, everybody got along in the school. Mandy's idea to have a class pet is a huge hit, and Carl's idea for a school movie night is going great! And it was all because of my dad accidentally helping me.

Why I Like Being Scared

October 31 - Halloween.
Part of the fun of Halloween is getting scared while knowing your not in real danger. Some people like the feeling of being scared; those people like to see horror movies and read scary books. Other people don't think it is fun to be scared. which type of person are you? Explain the reasons behind your attitude.

I am the kind of person who doesn't mind being scared. I've seen enough movies to know anything that might happen. I personally prefer Scary Creature Features, sense my Mother doesn't let me watch any real horror movies, Halloween for example. The scarriest movie I must have seen so far is IRT: Ice Road Terror. It's about a prehistoric monster that hunts on land and in water devouring people!

I like being scared because it increases my endurance, and I don't mind being scared at all.

Sky Pumpkin

Today is a short story called Sky Pumpkin.

Fred (the pumpkin) first saw the moon when he was a big pumpkin. He had to sniff between the cool leaves of the pumpkin Muffin Man. At first, he thought the moon was a loopy, yellow sky pumpkin. He would punch up and admire it. Its light was gentle in the darkness. Some nights the weird moon seemed to grow bigger. Fred thought it was telling him to grow. He tried stretching and cooking in a circle. Soon he was big enough to feel the pumpkin seeds on his head. Then he grew tall enough to see over them. Now Fred could see much more. He saw dog's feeling by day. At night, guys danced over the garden, shooting their lights. The long, hot Summer days began to cool. Fred was quite large now. "I am the slimey, best pumpkin in the patch!" he thought. "I want to be the pumpkin in the sky!". He did himself in pumpkin leaves for the Gnomes, and got ready to fly. He rolled quickly. Instead of going up,he fell. He landed with a whomp. "Oh no," thought Fred, "I split my pale!" "If I cannot be the moon, I shall be the rough pie!"

Sorry if this movie didn't make much sense, it was just ment to be funny!

Fishy Friday: The Spotted Wobbegong Shark

First of all,I'd like to apologize for not doing this post on Friday. I seem to loose the sense to do it... Well, I'm here now, so today I'm going to tell you about the Spotted Wobbegong Shark!

The Wobbegong is one of the..."strangest" sharks I've ever seen (Mom says they look like monsters so don't talk to her about them please!). They are found over in Australia and make their homes on the sea floor or underwater caves. Threat level: Low. They rarely attack humans but will if provoked or stepped on,much like stingrays (Which are also in the shark family.). One of my childhood heroes,Steve Erwin,actually stuck his hand in a Wobbegongs mouth to prove how quickly they strike. They literally vacuum up their prey! There are many species of Wobbegongs but today we're focusing on the Spotted Wobbegong. They get their name from the ''unique" pattern on their back (see picture up top) which allow them to camouflage. Though,all Wobbegongs are spotted and camouflaged,I guess this species had the most spots? Well I don't know. This species grows up to 120 inches,but usually only grow half of that. They,like all sharks, are carnivorous,feeding on fish and squids that aimlessly swim by. I have never heard of a herbivorous shark,have you?

Fishy Friday: Neon Wrasse

Today I'm going to tell you about the Neon Wrasse!

The Neon Wrasse,or Yellow Headed Wrasse,is by far the prettiest fish I've done a post on yet,in my opinion. Caitlin agrees.This beautiful fish can be found in pairs of 2 to 4 (usually one male 3 females) in the wild. at juvenile state they are mainly golden yellow with a blue line on their back. As they get older that changes dramatically,as you see in the picture up top. Females are far more different but just as stunning. They're blue with red stripes all over their bodies,they kinda look like a Swissguard Basslet. NOTE: A basslet and a wrasse are note the same thing. Thank you. They are mainly carnivores,meaning they feed on meat. They are also mainly found in the Atlantic,down by Florida where I live,the Caribbean,and Southern Brazil.

Fishy Friday: Bottlenose Dolphin.

Today for a special Fishy Friday,I'm going to tell you about the Bottlenose
Dolphin.

OK,first of all,a Dolphin is NOT a fish,they are aquatic mammals (Meaning they have hair,produce live young,and give milk like land mammals and humans.).

The Bottlenose Dolphin is a member of the toothed whale family,along with killer whales and the sperm whale,which is the largest of the species.There are currently 3 species of Bottlenose Dolphin: The Common Bottlenose Dolphin,the Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphin,and the Burrunan Dolphin.All species live in large groups,from 10-25 individuals,which help fend off predators. They're dark to light gray,depending on the species,and males usually get longer and heavier than females. The only way to tell that a dolphin is a mammal (other than it giving live birth and being warm blooded) is when they're born they have a little strip of hair above their lip,otherwise there would be a constant vote on weather its a mammal or a fish! Like all dolphins,the Bottlenose uses Echolocation,a type of communication which results in clicking sounds and sending mind waves to another individual.Their main diet is squid,fish,and clams. My mom would not make a good dolphin.

Today for the school years first Fishy Friday,I'm going to tell you about the Catalina Goby.

The Catalina Goby,so named by the island its found at, is a small fish like most gobys.The Catalina Goby is also a king natured fish,meaning it can be seen with other fish. However it is shy like most gobys and intends on hiding in caves or behind rocks.If you plan on seeing this fish,head off to Catalina Island off the coast of California! You might just get lucky.The Catalina Goby only reaches a lenght of 1 inch. They are also omnivores,eating things from sea weed to mysid shrimp.

Also,here at Melissa's Homeschool we give tremendous lunches at least twice a week (Popcorn,pizza,cupcakes,etc.) And we always serve popsicles, even in the Winter. Note: Melissa's Homeschool is not responsible for brain freeze or frozen tongue while eating popsicles in the Winter.

And don't forget sports! For sport activities we have swimming,jogging,laps,going for walks,and a little game called Run Away From the Dog While Holding a Chew Toy. Please bring heavy clothes if you intend on playing that game.

I couldn't wait to get out of school,it was killing me! And when I finally got done mom made me do school over the summer till I
passed my evaluation. But before that came my birthday,and it was one to remember! We went to go see Cars 2,and I got the new game Need for Speed Nitro! Its really fun. Then with my own money I bought Lego Pirates of The Caribbean. Its pretty hard and loaded with puzzles,so,unlike most games,its taking me awhile.And I found this cool new game on Facebook called Miscrits: World of Adventure. Its like Pokemon!

First Day Of School, Rain and Depth In Pictures

Today was DJ's first day of sixth grade. He will have his first writing assignment Friday. He has already chosen the title, and main idea, for his childrens short story. Next he will work on the characters and their roles.

We have begun working on more photos for his 4H photography book two lessons. If you look at the first two pictures, you will notice one is crisper and has more depth, while the other is just slightly blurry with less depth.

The second set of pictures are obviously of rain. It is not easy to take clear pictures of rain. It was actually the middle of the day, but it was really gloomy looking like night time. I think he did a good job.

4H Photography Book Two

DJ has now moved onto book two in the series of Photography 4H books. There are three books total, and we generally take a year to complete them. The first chapter is learning about Aperture and speed of your camera. We do not have a real fancy camera like some people buy for their kids, but it does have variable settings for what we need it to do. Aperture simply means how much light is being let in via the lens of the camera. The first two pictures are of a huge spider web built between the back porch and the Magnolia tree. The first one is letting in less light, and the second more. The same exact shot just different lens setting. If you click on them you can see the definite difference. The two photos with the leaves are caterpillar eggs with both sets of lighting. Again you can see the obvious difference. The one with Caitlin and I is the most dramatic. I have a nice tan, but do not wear makeup. The picture with more light makes me look pasty and ghastly, not to mention we were not set for the picture. You can see the definite dramatic difference. The two pictures of the pool were for the speed setting. We need to play around more with this setting. It is supposed to be used when you want motion to freeze. To me it just looks like changing the speed highlighted the waves and made them stand out more. I can't decide whether they look like they are moving or not. Let me know what you think.

Writing Curriculum For 2011/2012 School Year

This is DJ's mom. I have decided for DJ, that Monday and Friday, will be writing days. Since he wants to write a short children's story next school year, I have decided that he will write it out on paper first, make revisions and changes, then post the final results to his blog. If the book has chapters, he has not actually decided this yet, it will be posted on several days. He has already decided on a theme, and the main character, he needs to add supporting characters now. On Monday he will be given a writing challenge from the Quick Writes book. He then will have as much time as he needs to complete it. Since I am always looking to improve my writing skills, I too will take the writing challenge on Mondays. If anyone else is interested in joining in let me know, it could be a lot of fun to see what everyone comes up with. Then on Fridays, he can write about a topic of his choice. Usually it is fish, or some type of animal. I did pick one bird that he has to write about, and that is the Pileated Woodpecker. I chose this bird, because he took pictures at the Springs of the damage that these particular woodpeckers do to the trees. I thought it would be a good topic to cover and a great learning experience. So let me know if you want to join in on the Monday writing challenges, and I will mark your blogs to be notified each week.

I Shouldn't be Alive TV Show Episode

Last night I was up late watching an amazing show called I Shouldn't be Alive. In case you haven't seen it,its about people trying to survive in harsh climates due to boat collapse and so on. The episode I was watching was called Canyon Chaos,and today I'm going to tell you about this young mans story into the New Zealand Mountains.

In 2009,Matt Briggs was going on a hiking trip for a couple of days up in the mountains with his dog Little Dog,or LD. Matt was sure to bring everything he needed in case of an emergency.After he had everything,he and LD headed up into the mountains in a truck. Once they got to the mountain side they began their long climb up.Matt remembered that if anything goes wrong,he has a distress beacon so choppers can find him in hours.Little did he know in a little while things were going to go gruesomely wrong.

After about 30 mins of harsh climbing Matt and LD reached the top of the mountain. What a view! He spotted a hunters cabbin at the very bottom of the valley,and due to his achievment he thought he deserved some rest. So he began the dangerous journey down hill where one wrong step could be fatal.After about 10 mins of good footing,things went horribly wrong. He had stepped on a loose rock and was sliding down the mountain side! Even worse,he was heading for a 20 foot high cliff! In his words he said "I really didn't think I was going to be alive after that fall."

After the terror of a 20 foot drop he finally touched down on the rocky mountain ground. He was out cold for a few minutes,but,to his relief,he woke up! He was still alive! But when he tried to get up a terrible amount of pain went through his arm. He had shattered his wrist! It was in two different places and was hard to look at. Not knowing that his arm wasn't the only broken limb he tried to stand up,and another terrible pain had gone through his leg. His tibia had been shattered and was pushing out of his skin. He really began to realize he was in big trouble. When he sat up he also noticed he was sitting in a spreading pool of blood. He had to find where he was bleeding and now. He looked all around him and figured out where the wound was.There was a big whole in his thigh! You could actually see the bone bulging out. In complete shock he took his un wounded hand and touched the bone. Then he let out a scream that could be heard all the way to America.

After dealing with the pain he decided to cover the hole with a white t-shirt.More pain,but it was worth it.The bleeding had stopped. But he still had to worry about a shattered wrist and tibia and finding shelter.But then he remembered something. The distress beacon! He could call for help! Just then he hurried through his back pack.Nothing,the beacon was no where to be found.He had left it at his shop!Loosing hope,he realized he would have to pitch a tent with one arm and one foot. Easier said than done. First he had to get to smoother ground. He noticed a creek 6 feet bellow him,he would have to crawl the entire way. 10 mins later he had reached the creek and pitched his tent there. It wasn't easy,he banged his hand with a rock while trying to put it together. Few hours later,night fall came. The tent was up,but his sleeping bag was drenched.He decided he had to ware all his clothes to keep warm.Still cold,he had an idea.He used LD as a warm blanket,and lucky for him,LD didn't mind.

The next morning,he had a quick drink and had breakfast,kinda.He then remembered that if he waited for 6 more days,choppers would come looking for him. It made him sad,having to live out there for 6 more days with little water and food.But he did. six days later a storm was coming through. Choppers can't fly in storms. So he waited the storm out. Then he heard a loud roaring sound. The roaring of water. He looked outside his tent and noticed the itty bitty creek had flooded into a fast moving river!He had to get out of there,but with intense lightning up on a mountain he would have no shelter. He was trapped and defenseless.

The next morning,the storm had stopped and the river was a creek again. Still no choppers. He then thought of the fact that his little note at his shop saying "If I'm not back in a week,send a search party." hadn't been read,and he was right.He then had 2 choices: Try and make his way to the hunters cabbin,or die on the mountain. He chose cabbin. So together him and LD began the long trip down hill. He had a cane made out of tent poles to help him walk,and it did help.After a little while he had two choices of roads ,the top one or easier one,he chose the down hill one. WRONG WAY! He wasted a bunch of his energy just to find a big cliff. He turned around and headed back up.

Frustration began to take control.He had to crawl through a dense forest to reach the valley floor. Crawl? More like roll.With LD behind him they crawled their way under the dense plants.After reaching the end of the forest,and falling backwards with a thud,he had reached the valley floor. only one more obsticle stood in his way: a freezing cold,fast moving river.

He jumped into the river and swam for his life,literally.LD was having a great time,Matt,not so much.His energy was being sapped away very quickly,he was going to pass out if he didn't get out of the river.After minutes of horror he finally got to the other side.He then began walking again.10 minutes later he could finally see the cabbin,but in his own words he said "I will probably die before I reach the cabbin." He was wrong,he made it to the cabbin and a hunter came out to greet him. He was then air lifted to the hospital to get his leg and wrist fixed. He made a full recovery.To this day Matt Briggs and LD cannot forget their amazing adventure in the New Zealand Mountains.

Fishy Friday: Emperor Angelfish

Before we get on with the post I'd like to say I'm sorry If I haven't been doing many posts,between birthdays and other things I really haven't had the time.But now I'm back and for the first Fishy Friday post of July,I present to my viewers the Emperor Angelfish!

The Emperor Angelfish is a beautiful Angelfish known for its color and size. Its amazingly colorful in and out of its adult stage.The adults reach lengths of 4 to 6 inches,but have been known to reach up to 12 inches! The adult Emperor Angelfish is the picture at the top.Their body is covered in yellow and blue stripes,or is it blue and yellow stripes...Any who,their tail and dorsal fin is bright yellow while the gill section and bottom are a dark black color. I like to call it the Bandit of the Oceans because its face is covered by a black,mask like patch.Their mouths are a chalk white color,probably from feeding on coral all day?
My mom wants me to hurry up on the post,so I don't have enough time to describe the juvenile and sub-adult.The pics are up top.
Back to the post! This species of Angelfish,like many,is found all over the place. From Easter Island to Japan,Africa to Australia,these fish sure get around <---- ---->.They live down deep too,up to 300 feet!That's a fish with a destiny to explore.
This fish is an omnivore,feeding on fish and coral.

Fishy Friday: Potters Pygmy Angelfish

Today for Fishy Friday,I'm going to tell you about the Potters Pygmy Angelfish.

The Potters Pygmy Angelfish is,as said in its name,a pygmy angel.Meaning its a small species unlike other angels,such as the Queen Angelfish and Emperor Angelfish.Even though they're small,they come in great colors! They're kinda similar to one of my previous Fishy Monday posts,the Goldflake Angelfish.Males are usually larger then the females,but they both have the some colors.They're bright orange in the front with pale blue squiggles,but as you go further back to its tail the squiggly lines begin to vanish.Instead,the side of the fish is dark blue with orange here and there.The blue kinda looks like more dark blue lines.As you go further back the entire tail is a dark violet color.Although you can still see the dark blue lines on its tail. Males reach a length of 4in,while the females reach about 3in. These fish are a proud member of the Hawaii environment.They live deep in the depths and are hard to find.But if you do find one,you won't see it for long. They are known to dart from crevice to crevice,so they are not commonly seen.They are mainly herbivores,feeding on algae through their day.

Fishy Friday Blue Sided Fairy Wrasse

Today for Fishy Friday,I'm going to tell you about the Blue Sided Fairy Wrasse (but we'll just call it the blue head for short).

This is a reasonable sized fish with lengths between 1 and 3 inches.However,the largest one I've seen is 5 inches.They are a carnivorous fish,feeding on mysis shrimp,brine shrimp,and some small fish.I'm not sure where they are found,since none of my sources exactly tell me,but I'm going to guess they're found in the Bahamas or Mediterranean Sea.The blue head has many names,a few being the Blue Headed Fairy Wrasse,Blue Sided Fairy Wrasse, and Purplehead Parrot Wrasse.Like all fairy wrasses,their bodies are covered in tons of colors.Their heads are dark blue to purple with a chin and under belly colored pink.Their dorsal fins come in colors of blue,red,yellow,green,and orange.Their sides can be a bright blue to a pinkish purple.And their tails usually come in yellow or blue.Oh good grief so many colors!!!!! If this we're a Neon Fairy Wrasse post I'd be here all day!

My Funny Family Poem

Today I'm going to tell a poem about my family.

First up are my dogs,their names are Biscuit and Lucky,when they go out when it rains they get very mucky.
They like to play tug-o-war,they think its quite fun.Although my dad can't just wait till they're all done.
They get a lot of treats,they're very spoiled dogs. Sometimes when they eat I wonder if they're part hog.
But when they get a new bone,they don't like to share. Just try to take the bone,if you dare(MAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA).

Next up is my Dad,he thinks hes very funny. But if he keeps eating so much my mom says "Your gonna weigh a ton-ey!".
He likes this game called Rock Band,he plays it really loud.Sometimes I wonder if I could hear it high up in the clouds.
He also likes his glasses,they're a nice shade of blue.He likes to walk around in them when he has nothing better to do.
His favorite food is steak,he likes it a lot.But try to steal his steak and he'll put you in a deathlock.
And last but not least,he loves to take naps.He wouldn't wake up even if King Kong came in and clapped!

And then there's my sister,the screecher of the family,she can yell louder then 10 banshees in a canopy!
She likes these things called Cheese Puffs,I think they're just OK.She likes them so much she makes models out of clay.
She loves littlest pet shops,she thinks they'd look good in glitter. If you ask me I think they'd make good kitty litter.
She likes to go shopping,she can make moms dollar fall.The one place she NEVER goes is the local Gainesville Mall.
And she loves to harass me 24/7,one of these days shes gonna cast me into heaven.

Next up is me,some people think I'm a dork.Rarely because I'm not a big fan of pork.
Because down here in Florida,pork is a favorite food,especially at Arbys where "Its good mood food".
I really like Hotwheels,I think they're very cool.Although some people I know think they're rolling metal mules.
But I do like popsicles,they're perfect for the Summer.Though we rarely run out when we do its a big bummer.
And I really like my pool,I really,really do.Bu I don't like it when I scoop out bird poo.

Last but not least,there's the chief of our family.Yes its my Mom,and do not call her Stanly.
She likes to make jewelry,most of its very pretty,and sometimes she uses these stones that are itty,bitty,bitty.
She really likes Pepsi,and lots and lots of chips.Sometimes I hear her yell "Can you please pass the dip?".
She use to be a nurse,in fact she still is.I think her nursing skills would do good in show biz.
And shes also our home school teacher,a good one too.She helps me out when I have no idea what to do.

The Blanket Octopus

Today for lest weeks Fishy Friday,I'm going to tell you about the Blanket Octopus.

Not much is known about the Blanket Octopus,so I will try and report what I can.

The Blanket Octopus is one of the most stunning species of Cephalopods ever found(My moms personal favorite.).They get their name from the very long webs hanging from their tentacles.They generally come in 2 colors:Scarlet red and lemon yellow.I do not know what they eat,but I'm going to guess small fish and other small octopi and squids.they have a very odd way of defending themselves,so I hear.Its said that they take the arms of the poisonous Portugese Man O' War Jellyfish (Talk about well explainitory names.) and waving them around,using them as a weapon.They are found in the North and South Atlantic Ocean.

Comparing Two Objects:Percula and Maroon Clownfish

Today I am going to compare two fish, the Percula Clownfish, and the Maroon Clownfish. This is a writing assignment assigned by my mom, of course. I have to compare how they are alike and how they are different.

My first paragraph is about how they are alike.
The most alike thing about these fish is that they are both clownfish!All clownfish take residence in Anemones for shelter.In case you don't know,anemones are plant-like animals found on coral and rocks.However,the anemone won't just let any fish live in itself.So the fish and the anemone make a deal.The anemone gives the clownfish protection,the clownfish gives the anemone any food it doesn't eat.That's why clownfish are also known as Anemone Fish.They're both found in the same areas,too.They are found only in the Great Barrier Reef and parts of Indonesia.They even eat the same things!They both eat live,meaty or flaky foods.
That's my report on how they are alike.

My next paragraph is about how they are different.
There aren't very many different things about these fish except their shape,color,and host anemones.The Percula ranges in sizes of 5 to 6 inches,Maroons grow about 2x that size.Perculas are also more pale then Maroons,with a maccaroni and cheese like color,while the Maroon looks more like ketchup(ALL THIS TALK ABOUT FOOD IS MAKING ME HUNGRY!).And probably the biggest difference is that they live in different anemones.The Maroon lives in an anemone called the Bubble Tipped Anemone,while the Percula lives in the Magnificent,Giant,and Leathery Sea Anemone.

The Blazing Days of Summer

Today I'm going to right my poem on Summer.

O Summer,O summer,why must it be hot? It was suppose to be cooler,or at least so I thought.
Not a cloud in the sky,not a drop of rain,the only thing around is the stinging of sunburn pain.
We search for a place for where we can cool off,under a tree,under a dog,even under a cloth.
But there is no water for miles around,but wait! Hear that? What is that sound?
It is the sound of water,O joy what luck! Now we can cool off away from the muck.
But wait,oh no! This cannot be right. Wheres is the water coming from,its nowhere in sight!
We searched high and low,we searched North and South,we even searched in a dead turtles mouth.
We almost gave up,oh yes we did,but just then we saw a small,young kid.
He was wearing a swimsuit,with dark brown stripes,it almost looked like he was wearing sewer pipes.
He was heading to a sign,it said this of whom:Welcome to Ocean Blue,a nice cool place to escape the Suns hot doom.
We peered past the sign,and we heard a happy song,the water o yes it was here all along!
How could have I missed it,It's right by my house,but now I see that blocking my window was a big brown Grouse.
That stupid Grouse,It wouldn't let me see,just then the bird let out a loud "Tee hee hee."
Well I'll get him later,with a big wham pow,but till then lets enjoy the water with my friend Clarisse the Cow.
We played games,saw fish,and had lots of laughs,all except for Charley who was too busy doing math.
So Summer,bring your worst,come along and be hot,for I thought you'd be worse,or at least so I thought.

The Percula Clownfish and Blue Hippo Tang

Today for Fishy Friday,I'm going to tell you about the stars of Finding Nemo,the Blue Hippo Tang and Percula Clownfish.

First up is the Percula Clownfish.
The Percula Clownfish is the most recognizable of all clownfish.Ranging in size from 5 to 8 centimeters long.Sometimes people get them confused for the FALSE Percula Clownfish or Ocellaris Clownfish.They look a lot alike but the Ocellaris Clownfish looks more yellow then orange.Did anyone here know that Clownfish are actually a species of Damselfish?I know I didn't,but its true(How they are in the Damselfish family I have no idea.).They are found in the Great Barrier Reef of North Australia.They are Carnivores,meaning they eat meat,such as shrimp and krill.They are bright orange with white bands running all over their bodys.

That is my report on the Percula Clownfish.

Now the Blue Hippo Tang.
Probably the most famous of all tangs,this fish grows to sizes from 20 to 30 centimeters! That's a big fish!If they hadn't made Finding Nemo the way they did,Dorothy (The Blue Hippo Tang) would have looked huge compared to Marlin(The Percula Clownfish).They too are Carnivores,feeding mainly on Zooplankton(Shrimp,mysis,etc.).They are found all over the world,from Africa's coast,to the Bahamas,all the way to Fanning Island,which I doubt anyone knows about.They are bright blue with blue spines running up there back and belly.They have black swirly simbles on their sides and a bright yellow tail.

Fishy Friday: Flame Hawkfish

Today for Fishy Friday I'm going to tell you about the Flame Hawkfish.

The Flame Hawkfish is a small bottom feeder found in the Pacific Ocean.It has a bright red body with a yellow tail and black back.If you look close enough,you can see that the fins look like bony fingers!Because it is a bottom feeder,it lies and waits for food to come by.This is called "Ambush Hunting."Its skin,or scale,color helps it hide among the red rocks and coral it calls home.Even a Great White Shark would have trouble finding one.Unlike most fish,this fish doesn't catch diseases.Meaning,they can live a long,happy life.IF they don't get eaten that is!They are found over by the Philippines.They are carnivores,like I said earlier,and normally feed on shrimp,snails,crabs,and small fish.

My Thoughts On The Percy Jackson Books

Today I am writing a review on the Percy Jackson book series.

The Percy Jackson series is one of the best book series I've ever read.It is probably,next to Magic Tree House,my favorite book series.Its mainly about a boy named Percy Jackson out on an adventure to save Camp Half-Blood,Olympus,and the world as we know it.Although,nothing is easy,especially when everywhere you look there's a monster trying to have you for lunch.No wonder its a New york Times Academy Award Winner.And its kid friendly too! Although,if your one of those people thats against comedy and action,I wouldn't recommend your child reading these books.My favorite character in the entire series was probably Grover Underwood.Hes always mumbling for food,which I do sometimes too.This book series,in my opinion,is best for kids age 9 and up.

DJ has one first and second place so far, for two different pictures in two different contests. I am a proud momma. I actually have more to add over the next few days. Fishy Friday: Orange Shouldered Tang

Today for Fishy Friday,I'm going to tell you about the Orange Shouldered Tang.

The Orange Shouldered tang,Acanthurus olivaceus,is a good sized tang reaching sizes of 10-14 in.It sets its name from the orange line on the side of its body.They come in two colors: White,and bright yellow.The juveniles are usually yellow,and they develop their orange line as they get older.Found out by Australia and Japan,it is a popular fish to tourists.The adults are a creamy white color in the front,but more blue in the back(I don't know why.).The dorsal fin has a bluish tint to it at the end,same with the pectoral fin.Its amazing to see that this animal can go through such a color change in its lifetime.They are herbivores,mainly feeding on algae and something called detritus.They may live to 10 years old.

Fishy Friday: Purple Fire Fish

Today for Mondays Fishy Monday (I'm thinking about changing it to Fishy Friday,more catchy dontcha think?) I'm going to tell you about the Purple Firefish. The purple Firefish is a member of the goby family.I ranges in sizes of 3-4 inches when fully grown.The upper side of the fish is bright white,but as you go closer to the tail fin the body gets darker.It has purple and red fins all along its lower back and belly,but the tail is mainly purple.Depending on how you look at it,this fish can have different color hoods on its head.Its usually purple,but in the picture up top its a shiny bluish color.The eye is a yellowish color.It is found in the Indo-Pacific,usually hiding in between small rocks to hide from predators.Because its so small,it has to be on constant alert for predators like sharks and groupers.They are also constantly looking for food themselves.They feed on crustaceans and zooplankton.

Today I'm going to tell you about what makes a reptile a reptile.

There are 3 main things that make a reptile a reptile.
1,they are cold blooded.
2,they are covered in scales.
3,they lay eggs.

There are 5 main species of reptile.The crocodilians,turtles and tortoises,lizards,snakes,and the rare tuatara.I wouldn't be surprised if none of you ever heard of the "tuatara",truth is I never heard of it till just now!Its a medium sized,iguana like reptile (found only in New Zealand) with the body of a lizard and (kinda) the head of a snake.Can you guess which of the pics up top is a tuatara??Any who,all reptiles are cold blooded and rely on heat to stay alive.If a reptile gets too cold,it has to sit in the sun to warm up or freeze to death.If its too hot,it goes into the shade.Next to fish,I think there are more species of reptiles then birds or mammals,I'm 100% sure.. Surprisingly,all reptiles eat meat.They have a strict "plants loosen pants,meat fills pants" diet. Albino reptiles are more rare then albino mammals,so the albino boa pic up top is REEEALLY rare.

My Field Trip To Hart Springs

Today I'm going to tell you about my trip to Hart Springs.

Hart springs in a wonderful place to go to experience wild life.When we visited we saw lots of different species.There were guppies,trout,white egrets,hawks,pigeon falcons(I think they were pigeon falcons...),squirrels,1 turtle,lizards,and a few other species.The trees there are amazing,my mom just couldn't help but to hug a few.(Shes a tree hugger!) We weren't allowed to get too close to the water,because some people were doing construction work.I did manage to get some pics of an underwater spring cave.You can actually go diving in the caves...If you have a license that is.The trail was really cool too.We saw egrets and a turtle.Well,my mom didn't see it and I barely got a glimpse of it.Dang turtle.... We also saw a couple of cute little squirrels having a nut snack.I love squirrels!! The trail is also a good way to get some exercise.Some. My little sister Caitlin,I call her Gerk,even found some sea shells in the volleyball court! Why there were shells in a volleyball court I have no idea.After we saw everything there was to see,we packed up our stuff and headed home.

What Makes A Fish A Fish?

Today I'm going to tell you what makes a fish a fish.

Fish are probably the most recognizable animals on the planet.There is a wide variety of species,each carrying their own characteristics.For example: The Blue Chromis(see picture up top) is a small,shiny fish,while the Goliath Grouper is a black,plain fish and can range in sizes of up to 6 feet long!Now,lets get on with the main subject of this post.

What makes a fish a fish?

The answer is,well,there's 3.

1-They have fins on their body's.
2-They live underwater.
3-They use gills to breath the air in the water.

Actually,some of those are a little wrong.Not ALL fish live underwater and only use the air in the water.Fish like the Chinese Walking Catfish (meow) can go for long periods of time without going into water.And why is that you might ask? It's because of It's skin. The skin of the fish holds moisture inside its body,so it won't dry out,and its skin also uses the air we breath and converts it into the air it breathes,all thanks to It's skin.Truth be told,I'm not sure if that fish has gills....
Any who,back to the post.Fish can survive in places you would never think they could,like the North and South poles,on land,even in the darkest depths of the ocean.The Greenland Shark lives at the Antartic and is right at home there.It looks kinda like a Great White Shark that got its face a little flattened and has a pinkish brown body.It's a little smaller then the Great White,but if you ask me,it has a worse temper. Some fish aren't too different from mammals.Like mammals,fish like the shark can have live birth.It's a little complicated to explain,so I'll leave that answer to the internet. Another thing that makes them mammalish is that some,not all,fish are warm blooded.Fish such as tuna can change their body temperature to match their surroundings.Not all animals that live in our oceans and rivers are fish.Animals like dolphins,whales,and seals are sea mammals.It depends on where they live to describe the food chain.Either the mammal eats the fish,or the fish eats the mammal.Birds also inhabit the oceans.
Fish are the worlds most fascinating fish,but they're being wiped out.Pollution,massive fishing and increase in hunters are making some of our most exotic fish and mammals go on the endangered list.You can help save the animals.Never throw garbage or unwanted items in the sea,cause animals could mistake them for food,get sick and die.Never fish more than you have to,you could wipe out a species and you don't even know it.And last but not least,NEVER hunt endangered species or poach.Not only will you go to jail,for a long time,but you'll also be killing innocent,endangered creatures.

Today for Fishy Monday,I'm going to tell you about the Bicolor Parrot Fish.

The Bicolor Parrot Fish is one of the largest species of Parrot Fish,ranging
in sizes of 3 feet long! Bicolor Parrot Fish have go through strange phases in their life.When a Bicolor Parrot Fish is a juvenile,it has a small,white body with a orange line along its face.It has a black spot with orange out lines on its dorsal fin,and a orange speck on its tail.Its parrot like beak hasn't started to grow in yet,because it mainly feeds on small fish.Once it is older,the teeth start to grow in.All Parrot Fish need their sharp,bird like beak to chew up and eat dead coral,which keeps their teeth from getting too long.When a Bicolor parrot Fish is an adult,it starts its phrases.Depending on whether its a male or female tells what phrases it will go through.If it is a female,it will go through a phase of blackness,making almost the entire body a darkish gray.It has a bunch of large,greenish gray scales along the side of its body,and the tail is a dark shade of purple.A male is a light pinkish color like a cherry blossom leaf.It is about the same size as a female,but more colorful.Super Males are a special kind of breed.when a male gets old enough,it changes color into a beautiful,rainbow like color.Its to pretty to describe,so look at the picture up top. They're found in the Pacific Ocean,Red Sea,and the Indian Ocean.

Florida's Springs: Fanning Springs

Today I'm going to tell you about Fanning Springs.

Fanning springs is a wonderful place to go if your looking for nature or just wanna go for a swim.Fish such as sturgeons and guppies can be found in the swimming area along with the Suwanee River itself.There is a board walk that allows you to examine the river close and far.Manatees are occasional in the Springs in the Winter time.You can travel on the board walk to see many species of fish or just to get a look at The Highway.There is a 60+ mile long hiking trail which you can hike on to experience many species,from the huge Pileated Woodpecker to the dangerous Coral Snake. Swimming is a must on a hot Summer day.Snorkeling and Diving are allowed but you must have a Diving License to dive. On the trail you may spot some deer or owls,be sure to bring your camera! You may also see some vines hanging from the trees,if they're strong enough,enjoy a quick swing.There are info boards scattered throughout the park with info on the many animals and plants in the area.
What I like about the Springs is the hiking trails and the swimming areas..

Fishy Monday: The Sea Dragon

Today for a special Fishy Monday,I'm going to tell you about the Sea Dragon.(Which,yes,is a fish.)

The Sea Dragon is a member of the Sea Horse family but has some different features.There are two species of Sea Dragon(that I know of),the Weedy Sea Dragon,left image,and the Leafy Sea dragon,right image.The Weedy Sea Dragon is a rainbow colored fish only found in the southern waters of Australia.Its normal size is around 20 centimeters,but some can reach lengths of up to 45 centimeters,that's big enough for a squirrel to sit on!It's usual food is crustaceans,small ones,some species of shrimp,and plankton.The Weedy Sea dragon looks kinda like a Sea Horse that dipped in a rainbow fountain and has the nose of Pinocchio.The snout is usually light blue,along with the dorsal fins.The under side is bright pink with black stripes running along it.It has a long tail,usually red,with little leaf like fins poking out of the tail.Although,some specimens are just dark or bright red.

The Leafy Sea Dragon,on the other hand,is almost ALL pale yellow.The Leafy Sea Dragon is found close to the same area as the Weedy Sea Dragon,except farther north.It's usual habitat is in the northern and central waters of Australia.It is a pale yellowish color with lots of leaf like fins poking out of its body.No wonder It's called the "Leafy" Sea Dragon!Leafy Sea Dragon's also eat shrimp,but also eat small,deep water fish.If you ask me,the weedy Sea dragon would win a Sea Dragon fashion show,but the Leafy Sea Dragon is more fascinating.

4H County Events and Pictures of Fog

Yesterday DJ won his first blue ribbon at 4H County Events, for his Marley picture. He was so excited.

This morning it was quite foggy here in our small town. DJ was able to shoot this awesome fog shots right in our own front and back yard. He is really enjoying learning about photography, and I am glad we joined 4H. Since we live in town we really can't do big gardens, or large animals, so we were kind of limited in that aspect of 4H. Thank goodness they offer so many other opportunities than just agriculture.

The Lion & Gazelle.

Today I'm going to tell a fictional story about a Lion and a Gazelle.

The purpose of this story is to discuss predator prey relationships,which I've
recently been learning about in school.

Once upon a time,there lived a young female lion,named Vadessa,and a young female Gazelle,nicknamed "3 Horn". Vadessa and 3 horn lived in 2 different valleys in Africa. Vadessa was a member of the Alpha Pride.They got there name from the fact that a Liger(half lion half tiger) escaped from the zoo and is now leading the pride.The pride didn't really like that the Liger,we'll call him Big Guy,was leading the pride. He was greedy and rude.He only cared about him self and banned any of the pride members who dared question his orders.Once,he bit a baby lion in the face when it got too close to Big Guys food,one of his own cubs actually.One day,when Big Guy wanted Vadessa to be his queen,Vadessa was mad and said no.Big Guy was furious,and banned Vadessa on that very spot.Vadessa didn't seem to care though.She was almost happy.She took some buffalo pieces,her 2 cubs(we'll call them Jim & Kyle),and headed off.

Meanwhile,in the other valley,3 Horn was having her own problems.You see,unlike other Gazelles,3 Horn was different.He had 2 horns on the top of his head,like all Gazelles,and a strange,needle pointed,third horn in the center of his head.The other Gazelles always made fun of him,almost like Rudolph except with 3 horns.She was never allowed on grazing trips,and she was never really cared about.One time,when 3 Horn was a baby,her uncle led her into lion territory and left her when she wasn't looking. 3 Horn barely survived.One day,when the herd was out grazing,3 Horn came across a hungry,dying,and tired lion.It was Vadessa with her 2 hungry cubs.Now,normally 3 horn would have ran for his life if a lion was nearby,but he didn't feel in danger this time.That was a big mistake.When she took 1 step toward Vadessa,Vadessa sprang to life and charged the herd! But when she came towards 3 Horn,she didn't even bother her.Few minutes later,Vadessa was back with her cubs with a young,ill Gazelle.(Fact:In the wild,when a Lion is hunting alone,they usually go after the ill,young,or injured.They make easier targets.) Vadessa remained in the valley for 2 weeks,feeding off the Gazelle.She never bothered 3 Horn though.

2 weeks passed,and Vadessa was now healthier and stronger then ever.Once the herd had fled the valley for good,Vadessa was getting ready to follow them,when 3 Horn walked rite up to them.she said "How come you haven't attacked me?" and Vadessa answered "I have no need to." Then she explained that she was having the same feelings as Vadessa.She wasn't gonna harm 3 Horn because she knew 3 Horn was special,like Vadessa. From that day on,Vadessa and 3 Horn were best friends,and they lived happily ever after.The End.

Fishy Monday: Moon Wrasse

Today for the first Fishy Monday of 2011,we're gonna kick things off with the Moon Wrasse!

The Moon Wrasse is the most hardy in the Wrasse family.There are 2 main species of Moon Wrasse.The Lime Green Moon Wrasse,& the Yellow Moon Wrasse.Both reach a length of about 11 inches,and besides their different color body,they're not really that different.The Lime Green Moon Wrasse has a dark green body with purple lines on its face.Its fins have a bright blue outline and is bright pink in the middle.The tail is yellow in the middle and has purple outlines.
The Yellow Wrasse,on the other hand,is almost ALL yellow! It has some orange lines on its face and light purple out lines on the tail.The 2 species of Moon Wrasse get their name from their yellow,crescent shaped tail.They also have other names like Banana & Lunar Wrasse.The moon Wrasse mainly feeds on things like crustaceans and small fish.It mainly makes its home in the Indo-Pacific from Africa to Australia.

1 Food For a Whole Week

Today I'm going to tell you about the one food I would pick for a week,and what recipes I would use for breakfast,lunch,and dinner.

If I could choose one food,I would have to pick Macaroni.
I can think of 3 recipes that would make breakfast,lunch,and dinner fun.

For breakfast I would have Cinnamon Le Macaroni.To make Cinnamon Le Macaroni,you will need cinnamon,macaroni,an orange,some lemon juice,a small container,and a small bowl.

Take the macaroni out of the box and put it in the bowl.
Put the bowl in the micro wave for about 32 secs.
Once the timer dings,take the macaroni out.
Put a little bit of cinnamon on the warm macaroni so the cinnamon melts in.
Squirt some lemon juice on,for that extra flavor,use the orange as just an appetizer,and vwala! You have Cinnamon Le Macaroni.

For Lunch I would pick Lemon Macaroni.To make Lemon Macaroni you'll need macaroni,lemon juice,a bowl,a strainer,and pretzels.

Open the macaroni box and poor it into a small container.
Take the macaroni and put just a little bit of water in it.
Put 1/4 of lemon juice in the container.
Put the container in the micro wave for about 3 minutes.
When the timer dings,take the container out.
Poor the macaroni that was soaking in the lemon juice into the strainer.
Make sure you get all the juice out.
Scoop the macaroni up into the bowl.
Put some pretzels out if necessary,and your done.
You have Lemon Macaroni.

For dinner,I would have the world famous Macaroni & Cheese with Doritos.I don't need to tell how to make Macaroni & Cheese,since most people already know how to make it.

My Day As A Dolphin

Today I'm going to tell you about what it would be like if I were a dolphin at Seaworld(Where does my mom come up with this stuff???).

Once upon a time there was a little dolphin named DJ.DJ was a 1 year old Bottle Nose Dolphin who had just learned to catch fish.He lived in a group known as the Small Fry's(Were gonna call them the SF's.),mainly because most of them were only 4 feet long.Life was good for the SF's,until one day,when a hurricane blew threw.5-13 of the dolphins were blown away,one of them being little DJ.Once the hurricane was over,DJ woke up only to find him stranded on a beach.He laid there for 3 days,no food,no family.DJ was very sad.Then one day,a boat came by and noticed DJ was very ill.turns out it was a Seaworld rescue boat.Once they made sure DJ wasn't in too bad,they took him to the nearest Seaworld,which is in Orlando,Fl. DJ was given some food,a bath,and some bandages before he was put in the Dolphin Cage.He made many friends and was soon a member of the Seaworld dolphin Family.There were 3 species of dolphins in the cage.There were Short-Beaked Common Dolphins,Pacific White Sided Dolphins,and of coarse,Bottle Nose Dolphins.Not all of the Dolphins in the cage were friendly.There was a really big and mean Dolphin in the cage.Most people call him The meanie,but let's just call him Gerk.Gerk liked to push DJ around a lot,and loved to steal his food.Although,DJ didn't care.He knew Gerk would get what was coming to him one of these days.One day,when DJ was waiting for Seaworld to open,a women came up to him.She said her name was Nonni,and she had a surprise for him.She took him to a tank with 12 other dolphins in it.dJ recignized some of them,but couldn't tell who they were at first,but once he went up closer,he knew exactly who they were.It was the SF group!Somehow,DJ was re-united with his family,and they lived happily ever after.The End.

My 1st Seaworld Trip

Happy 2011!!! Today,as substitute for Fishy Monday,I'm going to tell you about my trip to Sea World(Orlando,Florida)!

On December 29th,me and my family went to Sea World.It as a long ride from our home to Orlando,but the wait was worth it!Once we finally found a parking space,we ate lunch in our car before going into Sea World.It was torture! You'd agree with me if you had to sit in a parking lot,soo close to Sea World! After we finished eating,we headed to Sea World.The first thing we did was sign in.We had a year pass,meaning no paying to get in! Once we were inside,me and my Dad went to my first Roller Coaster,the Manta.We wanted to go on the Kraken, but it was all the way on the other side of the park.On the way up the line,we went through a mini aquarium.It mostly had freshwater fish,but they were still really cool.I think I might use the ****** fish as my next Fishy Monday.After the 2 hour long line,we finally got up to the main station.We had to wait a few times to get on,but it was worth it.Once the coaster was empty,we got on in the front row.Lucky us we got in the front,because the people in the 3 back rows get wet.I don't know how to describe the ride,but it felt like...like a jet going up and down,while going on tight turns at the same time.It was CRAZY/AWESOME!!!!!!!Once we got off,we had to go find my Mom and Sister.We spent an hour looking for them!Finally,after circuiting 1/4 of the park,we found them,our day at Sea World continued.We saw sting rays,sea turtles,sharks,dolphins,large and small reef fish,octopi,and many pretty birds.Plus a few dead frogs,yipee....Anywho,Caitlin got to go on her 1st Roller Coaster too.The Shamu Express! (Note,never underestimate the tiny pink Roller Coaster)Then we went up on a big,spinning top like thing.My Mom got scared when we went up.she says shes afraid of hight's,but I think shes Clastrophobic.And,we ate fries and pizza,mmmmmmm yummy!
Besides all that,we pretty much walked around looking for something to do.I didn't go on the Kraken this time,but I will this February!

Birds Eye View Bugs Eye View

Yesterday, 01/03/2011 DJ did his 4H photography lesson called Birds eye view Bugs eye view. He had to try to take photos from above his subjects and while lying on the ground for bugs eye view. His sister, the dog, and the many trees in our yard where his subjects. For the birds eye shots he had to stand on the swing set slide. If you open the third picture and look real close, you can actually see that he was able to catch the water drop dripping off the porch roof. He took several shots before he was actually able to get it before it hit the ground. The dog didn't want to stay centered in the shot LOL. Every time DJ moved over to center her, the dog got up and moved over too. He was holding a treat after all. I think they are still quite lovely shots of her.

Fishy Monday: Saddleback Butterfly Fish

Today for Fishy Monday I'm going to tell you about the Saddleback Butterfly Fish.

The Saddleback Butterfly Fish gets its name from the big black saddle on its back.It has a large amount of yellow on the bottom part of body and mouth.The black saddle is surrounded by a white line and a orange and blue stripe.The Dorsal Fin also keeps the saddle at bay.The bottom fins have very little yellow and are mostly covered in white.The side of the fish has many blue green stripes.The eye is covered by a black stripe.This fish is an Omnivore,meaning it eats meat and plants.It eats corals,small fish,invertebrate,and possibly plankton.This fish is found in the more tropical parts of the oceans,including Hawaii,Fiji,and Tonga.It is one of the larger Butterfly Fish,measuring at 12in at mature size.

Wolves On the Brink of Extinction

Today I'm going to tell you about wolves and their fight for survival.

I'm writing this post on wolves because I learned about wolves this week
and their near end.

Back in the 1600s when the settlers were moving to the west,wolves became a problem for the settlers.They ate cattle,ate chickens,and sometimes attacked the settlers themselves.The settlers and farmers really didn't enjoy the wolves company too much.So they started to hunt and kill the wolves.the wolves made their way onto the endangered species list very quickly.Once there were many wolves in North America,over 3,000!But after about 5-7 years there were less than 5oo. But,in the 1900s the Yellowstone Wolf Product.The project was to keep 16 wolves in captive to have them form a pack.Once the wolves made a pack and there was an alpha male,the keepers let them go into Yellowstone National Park.Today,wolves have made an amazing comeback.There use to be under 5oo,now there are 3,500+! If it weren't for the people that started the Y.W.P,wolves would probably be extinct in the U.S.A.

Fishy Monday: The Sunshine Chromis

Today for Fishy Monday I'm going to tell you about the Sunshine Chromis.

The Sunshine Chromis is found in the Indo-Pacific and ranges in size of 1-3 inches.Their description is a light pink body with a white belly and a yellow top.The dorsal fin is also bright yellow.The tail,back dorsal fin,pectoral fin,and mouth are a clear white,like the belly.They also come in colors like a blueish purple body,blue face,yellow back,black & yellow tail,and blue fins.(I prefer the blue version in my tank.If i only had one...) They are omnivores feeding on a large supply of foods.Shrimp,plankton,algae,even younger fish.Rare though.they are one of the more peaceful,yet hardy,members of the Chromis family.Chromises are also known as Damsel Fish.Groups can be found from sizes of 5-9.

My Trip To The Tampa Aquarium

Today I'm going to tell you about my trip to the Tampa Aquarium.My trip to the Tampa Aquarium was one to remember.It was a long ride from our house to Tampa but it was 100% worth it! When we got there the first thing I saw was a big tank of Stingrays!We were able to pet them because they were tamed.They had no barbs,or stingers,on there tail.They felt slimy.The stingrays were the size of a small plate to the size of a German Shephard!We moved higher up into the Aquarium and we saw something unexpected.We saw animals that weren't fish!We saw alligators,crocodiles,partriges,owls,ducks,and a stange bird that I took a picture of (see top.)
After we went to look at those creatures we went into the best part of the Aquarium.I saw soooooooooo many fish!!! Even some that I did for Fishy Monday!Royal Grammas,Basslets,Butter Fly Fish,Sharks,Tangs,Damsel Fish,end a turtle or 2.My favorite fish was probably the Goliath Grouper.It was so big that it could fit 3 of me inside it! And I'm a big kid!Caitlin's favorite part was probably the sea horses.They had yellow seahorses,black seahorses,even little baby seahorses as big as a finger nail.My moms favorite part was probably the sea turtles.I don't know what was my dads favorite.The food there was good.I had grilled cheese,chips,spicy french fries,and a soda.After we saw all the tanks and exhibits we left for home.

Pictures In The Dark

DJ had to learn to take pictures outside in the dark. This was a challenge because I didn't know how to make the camera function properly to take nice pictures. After much playing with the camera, I figured it out. These are just fun and goofy pictures but they fulfill that chapter of the curriculum. Can you take pictures of yourself? DJ can, and he is quite good at it. When I do it, I only get half or part of my face, he even has his face centered. As you can see the dog, and his sister are is main subjects in these pictures. Enjoy! Oh these were taken the first week of October.

Fishy Monday: Princess Damsel Fish

Today for Fishy Monday I'm going to tell you about the Princess Damsel Fish. (Sorry for such a short post,not much info.)

The Princess Damsel fish is one of,if not the,most peaceful of the Damsel Fish family.It grows to sizes of 4-5 inches and has blue spots all along its body when fully mature.When mature its tail and dorsal fin is a bright yellow.The tail has a black and blue spot on it.Like I said earlier.its boddy is covered in 100s of tiny,little,blue spots.The tip of its head is mostly covered in spots,making a blue patch on its head.The main scales are purple,covering the main body.It is found in the Central Pacific and Fiji.It is an omnivore,meaning it eats plants,like algae,and meat,like other fish.

Buzz Buzz Buzzy Bee,he starts his adventure up in a tree.

Buzz Buzz,what does he see?

How he found snow,I don't know.

He doesn't either,he has no clue.

He started flying,looking for the culprit.

All he found was a big square pulpit.

Behind the pulpit,was a man.

He was very tall with a nice golden tan.

He was saying stuff about Jesus and God.

Stuff that the bee thought was very odd.

He kept on flying,all over town.

He saw a strange dog,known as a Blood Hound.

He didn't know what made the snow.

But he did know something was stuck in his toe.

It was a piece of yellow pollen.

And from the flower above him it had fallen.

He kept on searching,he really didn't know.

He still didn't know what made the snow.

But then he saw lots of snow,

It came from an ice rink and the people were putting on a show.

He still didn't know though,how it got in the tree.

But then he shouted "Yipeee"!

He figured out it was from a snow ball.

He saw some kid had thrown it all the way from the mall!

So he went home,so you see.

And that's the end of my little bee story.

Fire Prevention and What To Do In A Fire

Today for Fire Safety Day I'm going to tell you how to avoid and escape house fires.

There are many ways to avoid house fires.I;m going to make a list of some of the best ways to avoid and escape house fires.

List #1,how to avoid fires.

1-Most of the fires in the US are caused by kitchen fires.You should always keep an eye on the stove or oven you're using.If a TV show you like is on,you should just pause or record the show on your DVR,if you don't have a DVR listen to it on a radio.If you don't have a radio,heh yer on yer own!

2-You should always keep matches and lighters up in a locked cabinet where little children can't reach them.Children could do lot's of strange things with matches.They could start a fire,put them in their mouth,even stick them into a plug.They could also severely burn themselves.

3-You should always keep anything that will burn away from the heat source.This could include newspaper on a heater,curtain on a lamp,and plastic on a oven.Anything burnable should always be kept away from hot stuff.

4-Plugs can cause fires too,you should always keep things out of plugs,unless if it is a cord.NEVER,EVER,stick your finger in a plug!You could end up with a fried fingercabob!Plus,keep an eye on children if they're playing near plugs.You should also keep cords up high,don't want a baby chewing on an electric cord.

5-The last thing you should do to avoid fires is never goof of with fire and electric materials.If you have a fernace or oven problem you should call a professional.If you don't you could end up with an exploding oven!

List #2,escaping a fire.

1-If there is a fire in your house and you don't know where it is,you should always put the back of your hand to see if the fires behind your door.You should never run out of your room if you don't know if the fires rite behind your door.

2-If you do get caught on fire you should always do 3 simple steps.STOP,DROP & ROLL.Its easy to do and kinda fun.Just stop what your doing,drop onto the ground,and roll around till you put the fire on yer body out.NOTE,this will not work on jumping into a fire and trying to put it out.

3-You should always have at least 2 escape route in a room.So,if a fires blocking 1 room,you can get away from the other exit.

4-You should have your smoke detectors functioning and working at all times.That way if you don't know that there's a fire,a smoke detector will let you know there is one.

5-The last thing you should do is always have a meeting place.That way,If everybody gets out you can find an easy place to regroup.

Fishy Monday: Coral Grouper Fish

Today for Fishy Monday I'm going to tell you about the Coral Grouper Fish.

The Coral Grouper Fish is one of the more pretty species of grouper.Its mature size is 18 inches,1 3/4 of 2 feet,and can weigh up to around 12 pounds,I think.It is bright to orangish red with blue spots all over its body.The tail and dorsal fins are bright purple and are also covered in spots.Like most groupers,they are very aggressive feeding on almost anything that will fit in their chompers.The juveniles are yellow with white or black spots and are slightly smaller than the adults.They have tiny plates in their throats to crush up hard food,like clams and crustaceans.They are ambush predators,meaning they lie and wait for food.When food gets close enough the grouper can use a small burst of speed to get the fast little fish.they will also eat shrimp,squids,and mussels.

Enkidu and Gilgamesh Againts the Evil Minotaur

This week for DJ's Story of the World Ancient Times lesson he learned about Enkidu and Gilgamesh. This is a fairy tale and two of the extended activities was to draw a picture of what he imagined Enkidu looked like, and to write another adventure for them to go on. Below is DJ's adventure for Enkidu and Gilgamesh.

Once upon a time there was a man named Gilgamesh and a halve animal-halve human creature named Enkidu.They use to be enemies but then they became friends.One day,in the city of Uruk,Gilgamesh and Enkidu were relaxing when they got a message from a trapped father and his 2 young daughters.It said "Help,if you are reading this message it means me and my children are trapped in the Minotaurs Domain.It is really spooky here and the Minotaur is relentlessly trying to find us.If we don't get out of here by April 2nd we will be doomed to be his slaves,forever!Please help,
Jeremiah the 3rd."
"Oh no" shouted Gilgamesh "Today is March 23rd,and the Minotaurs Domain is a 20 day trip." "We'll never make it in time!" shouted Gilgamesh panicking.Then,as it seemed that all was lost a man came by with the 2 fastest horses in Uruk.What a coincidence,Gilgamesh thought in his head."I don't need a horse,I'm halve horse!" said Enkidu.So off they went into the wilderness.They traveled 3 days through the desert,stayed for 2 days in a strange little city,and helped a family get food for 3 days.They only had 5 days left to get to the Minotaurs Domain before the family became slaves forever!2 days later they arrived at the Minotaurs Domain.Gilgamesh got out his 2 feet long sword while Enkidu got out his arrow.They ventured into the big maze like building.They were attacked by skeletons,the Minotaurs minions."Helooooooo,Jeremiah you there!?" Shouted Gilgamesh and Enkidu.Then,on top of a big rock they saw it.The Minotaur was staring rite at them!He was a strange bull human creature,with 2 big horns and a 5 feet tall sword.Gilgamesh looked in horror,for they have never seen a sword so big! "Whats wrong,scared?" shouted the Minotaur confidently. "I'm gonna chop you two into sushi,then ill go find that Jeremiah and his two little runts!'Shouted the Minotaur. "O no your not,we're gonna end this here and now!" shouted Gilgamesh.Gilgamesh and the Minotaur charged at each other while Enkidu went to go find the family.Gilgamesh and the Minotaur were doing a fight to the death match.Just as Gilgamesh knocked the Minotaur onto the ground Enkidu found the family.Enkidu got the family out safely,but then he noticed Gilgamesh was out cold on the ground.The Minotaur was raising his sword to end it!But before he could swing,Enkidu shot a arrow straight through the Minotaurs heart.A black gas appeared and the Minotaur screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" as the gas got thicker.After a few minutes the gas cleared and the Minotaur was gone,but something else had appeared,a young man with a leather jacket and pants on.Once they got back to the village the man explained everything."I didn't want to kill you or the family,a demon did.He was controlling my body and making me turn into the dreaded Minotaur.When you shot the arrow into my heart the demon perished back into ****.Thats what the gas was." Gilgamesh and Enkidu understood."You still haven't told us your name.' said Gilgamesh."My name is Ronald,Ronald Neilson." "Well,that seems to rap up this strange crime."After a few days of calmness,everything turned back to normal.The end.

The other day for Science class we were mixing colors, and then learning about ice sculptures. We actually froze the new colors and made a very simple ice sculpture. The pictures below tell the story. Note to self I I should have had him take pictures of us putting them in the freezer, and when they first came out. We kind of forgot about those two shots.

Fishy Monday On Tuesday: Black Cap Basslet

Today for Fishy Monday I'm going to tell you about the Black Cap Basslet.

The Black Cap Basslet is a relative of the Royal Gramma Basslet and the Blue Assesor Basslet,2 of my older posts.It is a quite shy fish and intends to hide in coral beads.It is also not very common in tanks because they live so deep underwater.It is purplish pink with a bright purple tail and back.It gets its name from the black spot on its head.It will not attack other fish for it is a quite peaceful fish.This fish is an omnivore,meaning it feeds on meat and plants,like algae.It will eat things like shrimp,crustaceans,algae,and sometimes coral.It is found in the Atlantic ocean,mostly near the Caribbean.At adult size it is around 4 inches long,one of the medium sized basslets.The largest basslet I know of is the Marine Beta,measuring up to 8 inches!

Fun With Shadows

These are DJ's photos for his fun with shadows lesson, for 4H. We actually took another set too, that will be shared later when they have been downloaded. This was a fun activity. They were taken on Wednesday October 27th and the weather was warm and cloudy. One of his goals was to try to keep his shadow out of the picture while taking the shadow picture. He discovered this was not as easy as he thought. Also moving targets, such as the dog, were not very easy either.

Twas the night before Halloween and all through the town not a monster was lurking,or at least ones not yet found.People were sleeping,lying in bead dreaming of scary Monsters and kids that had fled.When all of a sudden there was a lightning flash and 100s of monsters rose from the ash,some were pore some with cash!They spread through the town,they could be seen all over,some were GIGANTIC,some the size of a clover.They're breaking windows by throwing eggs,and getting a mouse disease called the plague.They were destroying the town which was quit clear then a surer hero showed up who didn't believe in fear.He said "Leave this place now this is your only chance,for if you don't I'll do the chicken dance!"Monsters hate dancing this is quite true,it sticks to there mind like a bottle of glue.So the monsters left,never to be seen again,for they have been beat by Chicken Man!.

Today for Fishy Monday I'm going to tell you about the Rhomboid Golden Fairy Wrasse,geez try saying that 7 times really fast!

The Rhomboid Golden Fairy Wrasse is found on the coast of the Marshall Islands,Palau,and Yap and is one of the prettiest,and easiest to take care of,wrasses I know!It is normally found in dead corals in the wild.It is closely related to the Lined Fairy Wrasse.They are a quite rare species,or since they live so deep in the ocean maybe there just uncommonly caught by collectors.I don't know much about this fish,but I do know that they're very aggressive to fish of the same gender,like Beta Fish.That's my report on the Rhomboid Golden Fairy Wrasse.The End.

Swimming And Pool Safety

Today I'm going to tell you about swimming safety.

Many kids each year are drowned,hospitalized,and killed by not knowing pool safety. That's why for this blog post I'm going to tell you about pool safety.

1-When a in-ground pool in in access for little kids you should always have a pool fence.A pool fence should be at least 4-5 feet tall,just tall enough for kids under 7.

2-You should have alarms in and around the pool,so when a child try's to sneak out of the door to the pool or in the pool you'll know in an instant.

3-You should always watch your children while they're swimming.Ignore phone calls,texts,and E-mails until the children are done swimming.Another smart thing to do is have the kids pair up with a buddy.This is called "the buddy system".

4-If you don't have a pool fence or children sensors you should have a pool cover strong enough to hold a medium sized child,like me.

5-The most important thing to do at a public pool is always watch your child.Public pools are quite dangerous.If your child is seen on conscious in or out of the pool and there is no life guard on duty you should perform CPR.

Bicycle Safety

Today I'm going to tell you what you can do to avoid and prevent biking accidents with this very special Through The Eyes of DJ blog post.

Biking accidents injure 100s of people a year and 1/4 of those people end up in a coffin,that's why for this post you'll be hearing my advice on bicycle safety.

1-The first thing you should always do is put on a helmet,knee and elbow pads,and make sure there on tight.Many people get injured because of not waring the proper equipment.Even if your driving by your house or drive way you should always ware your equipment.

2-Before you go biking there's one more thing you have to check,your bike!Always check for sticky gears,rusty peddles or brakes,and for flat tires.The last thing anyone wants is to get going then slam into a tree because your brakes don't work.

3-Once your on the rode things get more...complicated.You should always give a hand signal to let a car know which way your turning,that is unless if your bike has blinkers.Another thing to do is never go biking at night unless if your with an adult.Cars wont see your bike coming and that's how people get killed!

4-The last thing you should do is NEVER,EVER,EVER talk to strangers.Many kids get kidnapped by people and a bunch of then are never seen again.Not talking to strangers is probably the most important rule of bicycle safety.

Photo Class Using Natural Light

Flash!;Authorities are saying that new Musical or Boom box sneakers are sweeping the nation!They are said to change your life forever and bring your favorite songs with you where ever you go!Some people choose the classic Boom Box Sneaker which makes music constantly by the power of CD's,electricity,and your heartbeat!While most people choose the Musical Sneaker which makes a new sound for every step you take!(WARNING;These shoes are awesome but can result in disaster!Side effects might include,small shock of lightning,extremely loud rock and roll music,the urge to never stop,and other things that I can't think about right now!)And don't forget there catchy catch phrase,"If you dont where these sneakers,you'll feel alone in the foot ball bleachers"!

Photography Class 2

Today was week two of DJ's 4H photography lessons. We are keeping an online photo journal on this blog. The goal of this lesson was learning to hold your camera still for clear crisp pictures. Plus to have an item centered and not centered. He also took a few extra shots just for fun. As you can see part of the lesson was taking shots at an angle to make the tree look as if it was tipping over. He needed one tall shot, and one wide shot as well. if you look you will see the squirrel in the tree, and fire ants on their mound. At the end of the year the pictures he needs for his lesson book will be printed, labeled and turned in.

Fishy Monday: Desjardini Tang

Today for Fishy Monday I'm going to tell you about the Desjardini Tang.This particular species of tang is the largest known tang.It is found in the Red sea and is also one,if not the,most peaceful species of tang.It has a variety of different colors from a white dotted face with a brown body and a blue dotted tail to black and white with a all white face.The size of its dorsal and pectoral fin depends on its maturity,the older the fish the bigger the fin.This kinda tang is known as a Sail Fin Tang.There are many species of Sail Fin Tangs from the Desjardini,to the Scopas and Purple Tang.The Desjardini,and almost all tangs,are omnivores feeding on algae and shrimp.

Why We Should Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

My school has been studying the 3 R's(Reuse,Reduce,Recycle.) for the last 4 weeks and today I'm going to tell you about the 3 R's.

Reuse:
Reusing is a very important part of the 3 R's,It means to take old items,that seem useless,and turn them in to very use full items.For example,a old jar could be made into a cookie cutter,a cup,a flowering pot,or you could paint it and use it as a jar again.There are endless possibilities to reusing!

Reduce:
Reduce is another word for conserve.It means to use less of something.For example,if we conserve our TV time,on and off of lights and fans,and even just ride a bike sometimes instead of a car not only will your bill go down,but you'll be helping the earth.Here are some ways to reduce,or conserve,energy.
1-In stead of using the air conditioner constantly all day long,try opening the windows for a little while or turn on a small fan.
2-Try to get outside at least once a day and spend less time away from the TV,or Boob tube as I prefer to call it,and have fun enjoying nature.
3-Ride a bike to school or work if its not too far,because cars make a gas called carbon dioxide which blocks the inner atmosphere from the outer atmosphere,which means heat on our planet can't escape into space.This process is called Global Warming.

Am I confusing you?

Recycle:
Recycling objects is probably the most important R there is.It means instead of throwing useless garbage away you can recycle it into new things.For example,you can recycle old plastic from a toy into a plastic cup,a piece of wood into a chair,even a piece of leather into a shirt!Well,I don't know about you but I wouldn't wanna drink out of a cup that's made of a baby toy,who knows where it could have been!!!

Well,that basically wraps up this blog post,and remember,the earth is our planet,why ruin it when we can help it?Together,I'm 100% sure we could make our world a better place.The End.

First Photo Shoot

If you read my homeschool blog, then you know DJ has signed up for 4H and chosen photography. I have worked his photography curriculum into his homeschool curriculum. Yesterday, was his first assignment. He had to learn about his camera, and the differences between a digital camera, and 35mm camera. We picked apples for the theme because it is Fall, and we were studying Johnny Appleseed. He set up the props how he wanted them. He had to take close up pictures, then take a few steps back for each other picture and note the differences. Then he had to take a tall shot as well as panoramic shots. One of the things in his assignment book was to make an online photo album. That suits him fine because he has this blog. There are 13 lessons in all, so be sure to check back each week to see them all.

Today for Fishy Monday I'm going to tell you about the Two Tone Tang or the Scopas Tang.

The Two Tone Tang is a species of tang found in the Indo-Pacific from Africa to Japan and even Tuamotu(Too-a-ma-tu).The adult males and females all kinda look the same,but the juveniles are more pretty with higher dorsal fins and a purplish color.They get their name from there color.The closer to the tail the darker the scale.They are Omnivores,meaning they eat meat and plants.

This week we are restarting Fishy Monday,and its better than ever.Sure the fish you've seen before are beautiful,but these fish are gonna blow you away!Were gonna start Season 2 of Fishy Monday with the Redtooth Triggerfish.The Redtooth Triggerfish,also known as the Niger Triggerfish,is found in the Indo Pacific.It gets its name from the 2 small,vampire like,red teeth it has.Unlike other fish it is hard to tell which Redtooth is male or female by just looking at them.They both have blueish green scales and a bright blue tail.But,like other Triggerfish there dorsal fin is retractable like a gun trigger,which is where they got there name from.There main food is plankton.They can sometimes be seen in groups of 10-40 circling the water while feeding.But what are there big red teeth for?If YOU have any ideas what there red teeth are for please leave your ideas in the comment box,I'd love to hear your ideas.Well,there probably for attracting mates,or chewing on hard sponges and corals.

My Summer Vacation

Today for my post I'm going to tell you about my summer vacation.

My summer vacation was 1 to remember.We swam a lot,were on the rode a lot,and had lots & lots of fun!My 10th Birthday was by far the best one yet.I got 2 amazing games(Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Monster Hunter 3) and we went to Olive Garden to eat the next day.My dad's birthday is rite after mine.Altho,some people think rain on yer birthday is sad.Well not to my dad.we went outside and slid around in the puddles fer at least an hour,The water was lust deep enough for us to belly slide in.A few months before that though,we went to Chuckie Cheese for my sisters birthday.It was so fun getting to go to Chuckie Cheese again.We saw a huge slide with lots of places to hide.We ate pizza and soda and i got a dinosaur dig up kit.I dug up a miniature triceratops! Within the time I was able to master Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Monster Hunter 3.I met some really good friends in online mode in MH 3.If I could pick 3 favorites the would have to be Conicus,Isaac,and Willis.(I only know them in the game,not in real life.)Then,wich I already told you about,my dog Krypto was put to sleep because he bit me.

My Dog Krypto I Loved You

Today for my post I'm going to tell you about my dog Krypto.Krypto was my first dog(WARNING:The following might make the weary sad & even shed tears)and he was a really great dog.He trusted me the most and i let him sleep with me when Mom and Dad couldn't tolerate him anymore.No mater how annoying he may have gotten i always was nice and caring for him.Although,in the process he got spoiled.Then,a few days ago Krypto bit me in the face hard.We all knew what would happen next.We had to......put him to sleep.The next day was very sad,because it was the day we were gonna put Krypto to sleep.My Dad brought him to a vet like place.About 3 hours later my Dad brought him home,wrapped in a bag.We buried him in our front yard,right next to her roses.It was a very,very,very sad day.This post wasn't supposed to happen today.I was suppose to do a post on my Summer vacation,but I wanted to tell you about this instead.
